Leahy Award for outstanding contributions to the records and information management profession - the highest level of recognition given a professional information and records manager.
"This is an important event and of course I am very grateful to be selected as the thirty-fifth recipient of this distinguished Award," said Mr. Dollar in his acceptance speech [insert link to full acceptance speech text - hyperlink "acceptance speech"] delivered at the annual meeting of the Institute of Certified Records Managers held concurrently with the ARMA International Annual Conference, held in Chicago Sept. 18-21. "Far more important, I think, is for all of us to practice principals that were so successful for Emmett Leahy and meet the extraordinary new need: a comprehensive reinvention of records management for the 21st Century. Electronic records, new information technologies, and new legislation pose enormous challenges and difficulties for records managers."
In her presentation speech, [Insert link to full presentation speech text - hyperlink "presentation speech"] Christine Ardern, Chairman of the Emmett J. Leahy Award Committee, said Mr. Dollar "is truly a pioneer and leader in activities that span both the records management and archives professions. Long before records managers were raising concerns about electronic records, the archival community was facing the challenges of how to maintain and make accessible electronic data and records of historical value. (Charles Dollar) recognized the challenges and issues related to the long-term preservation of electronic records, created a vision and embarked on an action plan to proactively address these challenges," added Ms. Ardern.
"I cannot think of a more deserving person for this award," said Robert F. Williams, President of Cohasset Associates and winner of the 1991 Leahy Award, in congratulating Mr. Dollar. "Charles has been a valued associate with Cohasset for many years, and his contributions to the records and information management industry have been outstanding to say the least. The Leahy Award was established the spirit of innovation, dedication, and excellence in the profession of records and information management, and if anyone personifies the spirit of the Leahy Award, it's Charles Dollar. Cohasset Associates is proud to have Charles Dollar as a member of the Cohasset family."
